The Free Class FaM is an association of cultural producers and critics founded in 2007. We are “free” in this “class” of scientists, artists and creatives only in a very narrow bourgeois framework. On the markets of the so called “Creative Industries” we are obliged to join a free and flexible competition, as proto-citizens and avant-gardists of capitalist innovation. Against this rule we attempt to establish solidary collaborations. As a self-educational group we work in distance to the official university structures, independently from those docile art academy classes following the ideals of their professors. From this standpoint we deal with the critical means of art as well as the criticism of its functions. The label “Free Class” was not invented by us. Similar groups were/are to be found in Berlin, Braunschweig, Dublin, Hamburg, Helsinki, Kopenhagen, London, Munich, Vienna and Weimar.

Die Free Class FaM ist eine Organisation von Kulturproduzent_innen und Kritiker_innen gegründet im Jahr 2007. „Frei“ sind wir als „Klasse“ von Wissenschaftler_innen, Künstler_innen und Kreativen bloß in einem sehr kleinen bürgerlichen Rahmen. Auf den Märkten der so genannten „Creative Industries“ sollen wir frei und flexibel konkurrieren, als Modellbürger_innen und Avantgarde kapitalistischer Innovation. Gegen diese Verhältnisse unternehmen wir verschiedene Versuche solidarischer Kollaboration. Als selbstorgansierter Bildungszusammenhang arbeiten wir unabhängig von offiziellen Hochschulstrukturen, wie etwa den Klassen an Kunstakademien, die im Schüler-Meister-Verhältnis [sic] vor allem dem Ideal ihrer Professor_innen folgen. Von hier aus geht es uns sowohl um Strategien und Möglichkeiten der Kritik mittels Kunst als auch um die Kritik ihrer Zwecke. Wir haben das Label „Freie Klasse“ nicht erfunden. Ähnliche Gruppen gab bzw. gibt es z.B. in Berlin, Braunschweig, Dublin, Hamburg, Helsinki, Kopenhagen, London, München, Weimar und Wien.
